Project
CMS
An internal operations system for managing vendors, vehicles, attendance, and monthly cost provisions
July 2021 — August 2021
CMS is an internal operations platform built during Code Adventure, a national one-month-long hackathon.
The project was built around a practical operational problem: managing hired vehicles and manpower across branches, tracking attendance and trips, and using that information for monthly cost provisions.
The system has a React frontend backed by a Django REST API.
What it does
The application brings several parts of the operation into one system:
- User and organization management — users, branches, regions, and roles
- Vendor management — vendor information and contacts
- Vehicle management — hired vehicles linked to vendors
- Manpower management — custodians and other personnel associated with vendors
- Attendance tracking — recording entry and exit times for personnel and vehicles
- Trip management — assigning vehicles and custodians to trips and tracking trip status
- Attendance sheets — generating and verifying attendance records used for monthly reporting
- Issue tracking — recording issues associated with vendors and attendance sheets
- Authentication — JWT-based authentication for the API

Admin
The admin interface provides an overview of the system and its operational data.

Attendance
Attendance records track personnel and vehicle entry and exit times, with records associated with branches and attendance sheets.

Vendors
Vendors can be managed along with their vehicles, custodians, contact information, and other operational details.

Architecture
The backend is built with Django and Django REST Framework, with separate API modules for users, attendance, and vendors.
The frontend is a React application using Material UI and communicates with the backend through REST APIs.
| Layer | Technology |
|---|---|
| Frontend | React |
| UI | Material UI |
| Backend | Django |
| API | Django REST Framework |
| Authentication | JWT |
| Data processing | Python, Pandas, NumPy |
| Database | SQLite |
My contribution
I worked on the system as part of the hackathon team, building the application around the operational workflow rather than a standalone prototype.
The backend models the relationships between regions, branches, users, vendors, vehicles, custodians, trips, and attendance records. The API exposes CRUD operations with filtering and searching for the main operational entities.
One of the more interesting parts is the trip and attendance workflow. Starting a trip can create a corresponding vehicle attendance record, while custodian codes are used to associate personnel with the trip and attendance is updated when the trip is completed.
Code Adventure
Code Adventure was a national one-month-long hackathon. The year's theme was fintech, and this project was developed as part of the event.
